This distinctly Australian bird has a territorial call which is most recognisable as a laugh. They are the largest in the kingfisher family, preying on lizards, insects, worms, snakes, and mice. It’s also known to take goldfish out of garden ponds. They are native to the Flinders Ranges and were introduced to Kangaroo Island in 1926.
